Parcels (Part 3) & ACE 09/01/2010
![]() Well, it had to happened didn't it...the day that both of us were out the missing parcel arrived. We got home to find this card on the door, so we'll pop next door tomorrow to pick it up. The reason we were out is that we went to visit Arts Council England to get some feedback on how they think our application is coming on for Unlimited. They offered us some advice and we had some questions to ask them, and some points to clarify. On the whole it still needs quite a bit of work, but the feeling is that it's heading in the right direction...so we need to just get our heads down and crack on with it. Earlier today I went to pick up some parts for the Post at Screwfix but they were out of stock so I have to go back tomorrow and pick up the rest. I also ordered some more parts online so we should hopefully have most things we need for the build next week. We can measure all of the parts and make the final drawing with Will by the weekend to get the wooden parts machined at the fabricators....exciting! Add Comment Parcels (Part 2) 08/31/2010
The saga of the undelivered parcel is still continuing...as first thing this morning at 7:10, the DHL website stated that there was a 'Delay on Courier Route'. I phoned them up and they couldn't shed any light on the subject. They did however explain what 'Undelivered Civil Authority' means...apparently some kind of blockade, civil disturbance or police road block...none of which was reported by local press (that I could see). She forwarded my case onto the local depot and gave me a number and told me that they would give me a ring to let me know what was happening...it's now 22:30 and we're still waiting. So, I hunted around and found one model was left in the local Argos store, which I promptly went and bought. At least we could get on with some testing and that we did, for most of the morning. It took quite a few different arrangements of render (an art form in itself) before we finally found one that sounded and looked good, and worked well on our new equipment...hurrah for progress! This evening i popped round to see Paul Malone, and good friend who fixes electronics at a hospital...what better person to ask to assemble some electronics and do some soldering. So we ordered some parts online for the headphone socket set up, and I have to head off early in the morning to get the other parts from Screwfix, (their website said they were in stock) which is across town a bit...might actually get a bit of exercise at the same time then. We've done quite a lot of work today on the application for funding of the main project 'Signposts', to which this is a pilot. Not the best way to spend the bank holiday but a we most certainly needed to push on with it. We are still waiting for the delivery of the screens...very frustrating! I sent an email on Wednseday to the company we bought them from stating they hadn't been delivered yet, which they should have been as we bought them on a 3-5 day delivery. On Friday I got an automated email saying they had been dispatched. I followed the tracking number and according to DHL's website they were 'With Courier for Delivery'...excellent I thought. But by 6pm on Friday they still hadn't arrived. I checked DHL again on Saturday and it said the same...and of course they were never going to be delivered on a Saturday. By Sunday though, the status had been changed to 'Undelivered Civil Authority'. Not particularly helpful as it doesn't even really make any sense. All kinds of research on the internet makes this no clearer and there is no mention of it on the DHL website help or FAQ's. If I can't get any answers from them tomorrow by telephone then I'll be buying some more from somewhere else. We haven't got enough time to be waiting around for things that might or might not arrive. |
